Weihai Campus——2021 Application Instructions for International Students (Master Programs)


Founded in 1901, Shandong University (SDU) is a key comprehensive university under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education of China, and a member university of the nation’s construction plan of world-class universities (Category A). The university comprises eight campuses in three different cities (Jinan, Qingdao and Weihai).

Shandong University, Weihai (SDUW), built in 1984, is an open and comprehensive university with a variety of disciplines. Currently, the university is home to more than 14,500 undergraduate students, 2,000 postgraduate students and 500 international students. Over the years, SDUW has established stable cooperative relations with 119 universities in 14 countries and regions.

I. Eligibility

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental health and possess a valid foreign passport;

2. For those who were originally Chinese citizens and later became foreign nationals, and those who have acquired a foreign nationality at birth, one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens and have resided in a foreign country, are subject to the regulations as stated in Document No. 12 [2020] of the P.R.C Ministry of Education and applicants must submit relevant supporting documents (Annex 1);

3. Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.

II. ApplicationDates

For Chinese Government Scholarship: From January 4th, 2021 till March 31st, 2021;

For Shandong University, Weihai Scholarship for International Students (hereinafter referred to as SDUW Scholarship): From January 4th, 2021 till June30th, 2021;

For self-financed students:From January 4th, 2021 till July10th, 2021.

 

III. Academic Programs

SDUW offersChinese-taught, English-taught and Korean-taught master’s degree programs to international students. Each applicantcan only apply for one program. After being admitted, students cannot change programs in principle.The programs offered in 2021 Autumn Semester are as follows:

IV. Application Procedures

1. Send colored scanned copies of your application documents to our university by email. The originals are required for verification when register.

Please note: Chinese Government Scholarship applicants must firstly complete the online application via CSC Online Application System at http://www.campuschina.org(institution code: 10422). Afterwards, you must also send the electronic copies of CSC application materials, together with other application materials required by SDUW’s master’s degreeprogram tothe following address: studyinsduw@email.sdu.edu.cn.

2.Receiveemails confirming your pre-admission qualification from the Office of International Student Affairs.

3. Make Payments

After obtaining the pre-admission qualification,student should pay application fee, tuition fee and insurance fee via bank transfer, and will get receipts when register.

(1) Remittance from abroad:

It is strongly suggested to remit in RMB. If the remittance is made in USD, please be sure the amount could also cover the exchange rate margin and service charge, and the excess, if there is any, will be returned to you when register.

V. Application Documents

Language Requirements

Chinese-taught Programs

1.HSK Level5 (180 points or above)

2. The only exception of the Chinese proficiency test requirement is for applicants who have obtained their highest degree in an institution where the primary language of instruction is Chinese. The official proof must be submitted.

English-taught Programs

1. Applicants whose nationality is the U.S., the U.K., Australia, New Zealand or Canada are exempt from providing English language certification.

2. Applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit the results of IELTS (6.0 or above), TOEFL (80 points or above, Mybest Scores Home Edition Testare accepted) or other equivalent certificates of English proficiency.

3. Applicants whose native language is not English and who have obtained their highest degree in an institution where the primary language of instruction is English, do not need to provide IELTS/TOEFL scores, but must submit proof of the language of instruction.This proof should be a letter which states that the entire program is provided in English and should be signed and sealed.

Application Documents

1. SDUW Application Form for Admission to Master’s Degree Program

Note:The application form should be filled out in accordance with the requirements of the university template. Applicants for Chinese-taught programs shall fill in the form in Chinese, while applicants for English-taught programs in English. (Annex2)

2.The biographic page of your passport (the expiration date of the passport should not be earlier than October 31st, 2021)

3.Bachelor’s Degree Certificateor equivalent. If the above certificates are not available yet, a pre-graduation certificate should be presented to affirm the applicant’s expected graduation date.

4.Official and up-to-date transcripts for all bachelor’s degree courses

5. Two recommendation letters in English or Chineseby professors or associate professors

Note: Referrer’s name, title, institution, phone number and email address are required on the letters.

6.A letter of motivation in Chinese or English.

Note: The motivation letter should be written in accordance with the requirements of the template (Annex3). Applicants for Chinese-taught programs should write in Chinese, and applicants for English-taught programs in English.

Note: The physical examination form (Annex4) must be fully filled in. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a stamped photograph will be deemed invalid. Please ensure your physical examination result remains valid during your application time as its validity is only 6 months.

9.Certificate of No Criminal Record (ONLY applicable for students applying for Chinese Government Scholarship Program)

10.Statement of Financial Support through a Guarantor and its supporting documents (NOT applicable for applicants for Chinese Government Scholarship)

Note: The statement (Annex5) should be filled out in Chinese or English. The supporting documents should certify that the applicant has sufficient funds to cover his or her tuition, accommodation, living expenses and international travels during his or her study in China. Only the applicant himself/herself or his/her immediate family can act as a financial guarantor. The statement should be accompanied by a copy of the passport biographic page or I.D. card of the financial guarantor.

Note: The photo should be in the size of 33mm×48mm with white background in JPG format. Scanned copies of developed photos are not acceptable. Two developed photos should be submitted upon registration.

 VI. Application Instructions

1. The application documents must be in Chinese, English or Korean. For documents in other languages, scanned copies of the original documents and the notarized translations in English or Chinese must both be provided. Please use a scanner to scan the original or notarized application documents. Images captured by mobile phones or cameras, or photocopies will not be accepted. Handwritten documents will not be accepted with the exception of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form or signatures.

2. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Shandong University, Weihai reserves the right to require applicants to provide the original and/or paper documents for further verification.

3. Requirements for applicants from several countries may vary from country to country considering thedifferencein educational systems. For details, please refer to Annex6.

4. Applicants should ensure that the application information and application documents provided are authentic and correct. Once the admissions or certification department verifies that certain information in the application is incorrect or fraudulent, the application or admission will be canceled. In the case the fraud is discovered after the student commenced his/her studies, it could lead to expulsion.

5. The electronic documents that Shandong University, Weihai and relevant departments/schools announced on websites or send to applicants via emails are deemed to have been delivered.

VII. Evaluation and Admission

Shandong University, Weihaiwill select the best applicants for admission. Video interviews can be a part of the application process for some programs. The results of admission will be informedvia e-mail. The results for self-financed students will be announced before the 30th of July. Chinese Government Scholarship and SDUW Scholarship applicants will be notified the 1st of September at the latest. The admission notice and JW201/JW202 form will be sent to you by post by the Office of International Student Affairs.

VIII. Registration Time

Admitted students are required to register at Shandong University, Weihai according to the date stated in the admission letter.The original graduation/degree certificate, language proficiency certificate and other required documents should be presented for verification when register.

3. Medical insurance premiums:

According to the regulations of the Chinese Ministry of Education, international students coming to China must purchase medical insurance. The medical insurance fee is 800 yuan per year per person. Students who have not purchased medical insurance will not be registered (Please login to http://www.lxbx.net for insuranceplanand claims procedures).

XI. Accommodation

SDUW campus is close to the International Bathing Beach,which boasts a coastline of over 2800 meters. The international students’dormitory building is located on campus which are double rooms equipped with desks, chairs, wardrobes, beds and individual bathrooms. There are also public kitchens, laundries and study rooms in the building.

To reserve a place in the dorm building, you need to download and fill out the SDUW International Student Application Form for On-Campus Accommodation(Annex11), and send the form, together with scanned copies of Admission Notice and passport, to liveinsduw@163.com no later than 10 days before the registration date. You will receive email confirming your success of reservation.

When you arrive at the campus, you should take your Admission Notice and passport with you for check-in, and pay your accommodation fees and a deposit at the reception desk (The deposit isRMB 600, and will be returned to you at check-out with the following conditions met:①checking out on-time;②keys returned;③room facilities and items kept intact).

You could go to the Finance Office to collect your receipt later on. Please keep the receipt for future use or refunds.

XII. Visa

Admitted students must apply for a student visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in their countries of residence with the Admission Notice and JW201/JW202 Form. International students who will study in China for less than 6 months should apply for the X2 Visa. Students who will study in China for more than 6 months are required to obtain the X1 visa. To stay in China legally, it is mandatory for X1 visa holders to apply for the Residence Permit within 30 days of arrival in China.
