With the support of International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship, Shandong University welcomes outstanding international students and currently-employed Chinese language teachers who love Chinese language and culture and are willing to do cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries for study of International Chinese Language Education or related majors.
Ⅰ. Eligibility
a) Non-Chinese citizens;
b) Friendly to China, with no criminal record, and abiding by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school;
c) In good physical and mental conditions, and with a good record of academic performance and conduct;
d) Aspiring to work in the Chinese language education and related fields;
e) Aged between 16 and 35 (as of September 1st, 2024), with the special allowance for the age limit of 45 for applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers and that of 25 for undergraduate student applicants.

Ⅲ. Policies Regarding Currently Employed Chinese Language Teachers and Chinese Bridge Award Recipients
Currently employed Chinese Language Teachers |
Currently employed Chinese language teachers applying for the scholarships can be exempted from submitting Chinese Language Proficiency Test (HSK) certificates if they can provide proof of employment and a letter of recommendation from the institution where they work. |
Chinese Bridge Award Recipients |
Applicants who have won the 2024 International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate in various Chinese Bridge competitions should submit their application documents along with their scholarship certificates to relevant host institutions on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website. Ⅳ. Coverage and Criteria
The International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fee, accommodation fee, living allowance (four-week study students are excluded) and comprehensive medical insurance expenses. The scholarship online programs only support tuition fees.
Ⅴ. Application Documents
A. For all applicants
a) A Scanned copy of passport photo page;
b) A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity);
c) A reference letter by the head of the recommending institutions.
B. For degree scholarship program applicants
a) A certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript;
b) Applicants of the Scholarship for MTCSOL students are required to provide 2 reference letters from professors or associate professors.
Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or a proof to the same effect.
C. Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall provide proof of employment as well as a reference letter by the employer.
D. Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China (Annex 1).
E. Applicants shall also provide additional documents required by Shandong University.
a) Foreigner Physical Examination Form.
Applicants should undergo the examination strictly according to the required items stated in the “Foreigner Physical Examination Form” (please download the template from: https://www.istudy.sdu.edu.cn/info/1267/3354.htm). Incomplete forms or forms without signature of the attending physician, hospital stamp, and stamped photo will not be accepted. Please ensure the physical examination remains valid during the application as the result is valid for only 6 months.
b) Certificate of No Criminal Record.
Applicants must submit the Certificate of No Criminal Record within the validity period issued by local public security management department. It should be valid within 6 months prior to the application date.
c) Letter of motivation in Chinese.
Applicants should follow the template provided by Shandong University (please download the template from Annex 2).
Ⅵ. Application Procedures
a) Online registration will be available from March 1, 2024 on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship application website (http://www.chinese.cn). For programs commencing in September 2024, student application must complete before May 15th, 2024; for programs commencing in March 2025, student application must complete before October 31st, 2024. Please log on cis.chinese.cn and search for recommending institutions and host institutions,choose Shandong University as your first preference of institution.
b) Please visit Shandong University Application System for International Students (www.apply.sdu.edu.cn) to register an account, fill in personal information and submit application documents. Please choose “International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship” in the application system.
c) Upload application materials online; and track the application progress, comments and result.
d) Scholarship holders confirm with Shandong University to go through the procedures of studying in China, and print out the scholarship certificate online.
e) Shandong University sends you the Admission Letter to apply for study visa. Register on the designated date according to the admission letter.
